Henderson Lacrosse Club supports two boys high school teams (Cougars, Gators), one girls high school team (Warriors) and three middle school teams (Bob Miller, Del Webb, Greenspun).
No – all teams supported by Henderson Lacrosse Club are part of the Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association league. Henderson Lacrosse Club provides support to the Henderson teams.
Each player is responsible for paying US Lacrosse and Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association membership fees as well as team fees. Each player is responsible for providing their own equipment. A description of all typical fees/expenses is found here.
The middle school level teams are divided into three divisions of play:
- Division 1 is the most competitive and each Division 1 team generally consists of 8th graders and experienced 7th graders.
- Division 2 consists mostly of 1st year middle school players and possibly some 6th graders.
- Division 3 is intended to introduce the game to elementary aged kids. Not all Henderson middle school teams have a Division 3.
The high school level teams are divided into three divisions of play:
- Division 1 is the highest level of Varsity play.
- Division 2 is Varsity 2nd tier.
No – the teams are independently organized and run by volunteers. However, the teams are formed based upon school zones with the majority of the Cougars players attending Coronado while the majority of Gators players attend Green Valley High School.
Yes – The rule from Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association is that your son would play for the team that has a program closest to your son’s school. For example, Schofield Middle School is closest to Bob Miller, Thurman White is closets to Greenspun.
Yes - Division 3 level of play targets the elementary aged kids. The middle school program closest to the elementary school would be the program your son would play for.
Presently, there is no middle school program for girls. Girls lacrosse is played with different equipment and rules than boys lacrosse and the skills needed for girls lacrosse are different than what are needed for boys lacrosse. Most middle school girls within Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association will play for the high-school teams. However, some girls will play for the boys middle school teams. That being said, as per Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association, girls cannot play on boys team at the high school level.
Sling-it is the only local lacrosse-only store; they sponsor a number of local lacrosse events for all levels of play. There are a large number of on-line lacrosse stores and gear can often be found on e-bay and craigslist. Helmets should always be purchased new.
Each team needs to have a team manager – some teams have more than one manager (based on team size).
Also, each team needs to provide score keepers and time keepers for each home game. These are typically parents of kids playing the game. These are great ways for parents to learn more about the game.
The Henderson Lacrosse Club has meetings each month that are open for all parents/coaches to attend. At the annual meeting (usually August/September) board members are elected to serve 1-year terms.
Coaches are volunteers and we are always on the look-out for any people with lacrosse knowledge and/or parents willing to learn more about coaching lacrosse. If you are interested in coaching, you can either contact the team head coach or contact Henderson Lacrosse to see what team needs coaches.
